As the Murph Group's driver, John West rescues his employer Pam Murphy and the two grow close during that encounter in his car, which leads to her promoting him to secretary. A dispute between the Murph and Martin companies pulls him in, and along the way he discovers a concealed bug and roots out an informant, all while shielding Pam through repeated suspicion and testing. When his girlfriend Sally Abel humiliates and dumps him for failing to afford a bride price, it is Pam who comes to his defense.
