Human-born princess Althea is compelled to marry into the temple of the war god Ares. On their wedding day itself, Ares abandons her to be with his lover Callisto, leaving Althea to guard the temple alone for the next three years. Ninety-nine unanswered letters and a drained dowry later, she learns her mother died from torture at her stepmother's hands. When Ares finally returns and finds her pregnant, Callisto accuses her of infidelity. In his rage, Ares has her whipped, dragged through the streets, and stabbed in the stomach, costing her the pregnancy. As she nears death, Zeus appears and reveals the truth — the child was his, making her his hidden queen all along.
